Sheffield FC v Queen's Park 1957
Sheffield FC celebrate their 100th birthday.
- Held at Bramall Lane on the 24th October 1957. Exactly 100 years to the day that Sheffield FC were officially founded. This match versus Queen’s Park of Scotland is the World’s first ever football club centenary celebration fixture.
- Bramall Lane was also the venue for Sheffield FC’s 125th anniversary match against Manchester United and the 150 years celebration game against Inter Milan.
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Honved 1954
In 1954 Wolverhampton Wanderers were proclaimed in the English press as ‘Champions of the World’ following a thrilling 3-2 floodlit friendly win over Honved of Hungary. Honved boasted many of the ‘Magical Magyars’ that had humilated England 6-3 at Wembley and then 7-1 in Hungary. In front of 55000 people and the cameras of the BBC, English pride was restored.
